Al-Hilal breaks world record with 28th consecutive victory

Al-Hilal, the Saudi Pro League team, has made history by achieving a remarkable milestone of 28 consecutive wins, setting a new world record for top-flight teams. Their latest triumph came in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday, where they defeated Al-Ittihad 2-0.

Jorge Jesus' squad surpassed the previous record held by Welsh Premier League champions, The New Saints (TNS), who had secured 27 consecutive victories during the 2016-17 season. TNS had notably eclipsed Ajax Amsterdam’s 26-game winning streak, a record held for 44 years.

Manager Jesus expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the club for their contributions to this historic achievement, emphasizing the collective effort behind the record-breaking streak.

"While this is an incredible milestone, our focus remains on securing trophies rather than records," Jesus remarked. "It's imperative for all of us at Al Hilal to maintain our momentum, aiming for the Roshn Saudi League title and success in cup competitions. That's when we can truly celebrate."

Al-Hilal currently leads the Saudi league standings with 65 points, boasting a 12-point advantage over Al-Nassr, led by Cristiano Ronaldo. Al-Nassr was eliminated from the Asian Champions League after a penalty shootout defeat to Al-Ain on Monday.

Looking ahead, Al-Hilal is set to face Al-Ain in the semi-finals, continuing their quest for continental glory. Jesus' team will also aim to extend their winning streak as they host Damac in a league fixture on Saturday.
